The Watery Lip Tint That’s Perfect For Those Quick and Dirty Makeup Days

I am not a lipstick wearer. I don’t want to worry about reapplying and I never check myself in the mirror when I’m in the bathroom or… by a mirror (this is a dangerous habit I wish I didn’t have). And I don’t want lipstick all over the inside of a mask, or on my teeth, or on my straw. I just don’t want to DEAL. However, I DO love a bit of lip color, which is why I am a devoted to lip stains.

There are many kinds of lip stains out there, and I’ve written about a whole bunch of them. My personal fave and most-used (and reviewed here) is Etude Fixing Tint, specifically in the shade 07 Cranberry Plum. It is the perfect my lips but better (and also won’t fade or transfer) lipcolor. But I’m always curious about new things, so I got a bottle of Etude Water Tint in 04 Red Grapefruit to try a different formula.

I have a tube of a lip stain that doesn’t exist anymore, and I still use it when I want to take 3 seconds to apply a lip tint. With my BFF Etude Fixing Tint, I apply a thickish layer, leave it on while I do my makeup, then wipe off the excess, leaving just the stained memory of lip color. With my TonyMoly watery stick tint I swipe some on and immediately wipe it off, lest I end up with primary color red lips (which are gorgeous, just not for me). To me, the Etude Water Tint could be a replacement for this very old stick of tint that should be thrown out I’m sure.

Water Tint had a little learning curve, because it is a true STAIN, in the sense that it spreads out and settles in any imperfections and highlights them like big red neon sign. I’ve learned to exfoliate the hell out of my lips first, then apply quickly but carefully, and maybe 10 seconds later wipe it off. This usually works and leaves me with a stained lip that’s like if I drank koolaid/red wine/pomegranate juice but in a calculated way that made my lips gorgeous without any hint of unevenness or a koolaid mustache.

While Etude Fixing Tint is still my go-to, I do like the Etude Water Tint for when I want a bolder lip, but in a flash. She’s the quick and dirty lip tint, and once you get past the slight learning curve, a great option to have in your lip kit.
