Of Course I Got a Korean Sheet Mask Subscription

I bought my very first Korean sheet mask this winter, mainly because it promised to turn me into a dragon.

Today I turned 29, and I feel like I'm finally becoming who I was always meant to be. 🙏🏾🐲

It was pretty stinkin' fun, so when I found out about a monthly subscription service for Korean sheet masks, I was very interested. It's through an online shop called Beauteque, but the subscription itself is called Mask Maven (there's another subscription called BB Bag that's for makeup, skin care, and the like that's slightly pricier). There are different tiers for the Mask Maven subscriptions, ranging from one month at a time all the way to a full year at once, with your monthly fee being reduced for purchasing more at one time. I decided to go for the three month subscription, for $15 a month. You have to pay all at once, so really, it was $45 plus shipping. You're charged a shipping fee for each month, but you pay that up front too. I found a 10% off coupon code online, so my final cost for a three month subscription was $53. It feels like a lot when you're paying that all at once, but it was pretty easy for me to rationalize (especially now that I've gotten two months worth of masks). If you're rounding, that's $18 a month for an average of 10 masks a month. I have seen these exact masks in stores and they can retail for $3 to $5 or even more per mask. This is actually a pretty sweet bargain. PLUS, you're getting a wide range of brands. If you're like me and love trying different things, but also hate leaving your house, this is the perfect solution.

This was my first Mask Maven delivery. As you can see there's a monthly theme, and all the masks in the bag kind of fit into that theme. So for March I was sent masks that would energize and invigorate with natural ingredients. They came in a nice little mesh bag with a card that explained what each mask was and what its benefits were (while most of the masks have some English, they're 90% in Korean and some have no English at all, so if you have any questions about the masks but don't read Korean, this little info card is vital).

Here are all the masks included in March's Mask Maven delivery laid out. I got eight sheet masks and one lip mask, which I found incredibly intriguing (more on that later). I don't like to inundate my skin with new things, so I'm pacing myself with these masks, so I barely made a dent in this stash before April's delivery arrived. I am drowning in sheet masks now, to the point where I'm inviting friends over and asking them to put masks on their faces. On the bright side though, Korean sheet masks are fun and make you look like a serial killer.

Back to that lip mask. I was so, so very interested when I saw that. I've seen those in Korean beauty stores before and always thought they were intriguing, but never picked one up, so I was very excited when there was one in my Mask Maven delivery. First of all, the lips are HUGE. I have known some large-lipped people in my time, and I imagine them looking at this and going, "Whoa. That's kind of overkill." I was also unsure of how it would feel. It's described on the package as a "gel patch" which could really mean anything. For something that was in a 50% clear package, this thing was a real mystery.

By the time I decided to use my enormous lip mask I had gotten April's delivery, which included even more sheet masks, but also a "lace eye mask," so I decided to do the lip mask and eye mask at the same time. I apologize for any nightmares caused by this next photo.

I can now tell you that the lip mask has the exact feel of a Jell-O Jiggler. It's cherry scented too, so yeah, it's a straight up Jell-O Jiggler. It's also insanely slippery so it will start on your lips but even though you're mostly laying down it'll be on your chin if you're not careful. It did make my lips feel nice though. I'd repurchase and use it again. I just wish it didn't slip down my face and take up my entire jaw. Maybe I'll try a different brand. As for the eye mask, I look like The Bride of Batman. It was also a gel mask, which was interesting and not what I expected (I thought it would be a typical sheet mask). It stayed in place, which would have been nice to have on my lips - their mask had to be constantly readjusted.

Overall, I'm incredibly happy with Mask Maven. I'm not planning on keeping my subscription after three months, only because I have so many sheet masks now. After I work my way through these I might get another three month subscription later down the road. You can also give subscriptions as gifts, which is a great idea for the beauty junkie in your life. If you love a good mask and getting a lovely package in the mail each month, then Mask Maven is the beauty subscription service for you. Or come over to my house for a mask party, I've got plenty  to share!
