My Dog's Skin Was Saved By These Two Soothing Balms

After he’s been outside, I wipe my dog Hero DeNiro’s paws. This started because he was allergic to grass (I say had because he seems to only have been allergic to SoCal grass), and has continued because 1) He likes it and 2) I like not having him track in whatever dirt and foliage he’s managed to pick up outside. Because I touch his paws multiple times a day, I know just how rough and callused they are. I thought this was just a result of walking on sidewalks all the time, and that these calluses were protecting him - you know, like how calluses help you play guitar. I was wrong.

Now, sponcon does not make me want to buy something, typically. I’m thrilled that people are getting paid, but I’m not going to buy something I’ve never heard of because some stranger says it’s good. But I saw this product called Paw Soother, made by Natural Dog Company, being advertised on multiple dog Instagrams I follow (I basically have a dog Instagram myself, although not officially), and I don’t know if it was because it was accounts for smush-faced dogs, or because there’s a Boston terrier on the packaging, or because my own little pup suffers from paw issues, but I bought some. Actually, I bought a tin of the Paw Soother and a stick of the Skin Soother. Hero was recovering from surgery and his shaved surgery site looked like it could use some soothing.

I wanted to get different packaging for each product so I could try them both out. The stick comes in essentially a deodorant stick and is a mess-free way to apply product. I thought this would be good for Hero’s surgery recovery because I could just swipe it on his back and be done. I got the tin for the Paw Soother because I thought it would be easier to apply if I held him and gave him a little foot massage rather than swiping it on him and letting him go, potentially to lick it all off or walk on the floor and leave little Paw Soother prints everywhere.

I’m super impressed with both products. Here’s the most amazing part: I am not diligent about applying either product, I just swipe his “deodorant stick” on him when I’m thinking about it, and his skin looks great now. His skin was peeling and flaking, his incisions were still kind of red and raised, and now he’s looking perfect, apart from his hair that is taking an age to grow back.

As for the paws, I should have taken a before photo before a single application of the Paw Soother. I thought I’d have time to do it later, but this stuff worked so fast that you can’t even tell he had sandpaper paws just a few weeks ago. And remember, I’m completely inconsistent with applying this stuff. Sure, I’ve had Paw Soother for three weeks, but I’ve applied it maybe four times. It’s suggested that you use it every day, and I’m sure if I did Hero’s paws would be downright buttery, but I’m just not with it enough to manage. BUT STILL, his paws have transformed. My mom was at my house a few days ago and I yelled “FEEL HERO’S PAWS!!!” because she has also wiped his paws many times, and would know what they were like before. It’s unbelievable AND YET IT’S REAL.

Now that I’ve seen the results from extremely sporadic use of these products, I’m going to make a dedicated effort to use them more regularly. But if you’re worried about adding yet another thing to your daily list just so that the dog can have soft paws, let me tell you, you can be a total slacker and still see mind blowing results.

And Natural Dog Company doesn’t just make paw and skin soothers! There’s also PawTection, which helps maintain those results you got from Paw Soother. Snout Soother and Snout Shine are, understandably enough, for little pup noses, and Wrinkle Balm is for our dog friends with a few extra rolls to love. You can get every product in tins of different sizes, the mess-free stick, and a travel sized tube that looks like a chapstick. There are also soaps, chew toys, tooth scrub, and a snore remedy (apparently some owners of brachycephalic dogs don’t find snoring completely endearing, the fools).

I’m completely sold on Natural Dog Company and their products - They now have a lifelong customer in me. I’m working on getting a coupon code, but in the meantime, if you followed my previous advice and got Honey, I found a great deal with that.
