Wear, Watch, Want #80: The Curious Jeweled Robe Edition

Wear: Ugg Karoline Fleece Robe

When I lived in Southern California I had a thin robe because, well, it was hot there most of the time. I knew that I was moving to cooler climes, however, and while I was still living in LA I bought this robe from Nordstrom Rack. The only size they had left was XL, and I thought, “Well, this is what I want, and it’s a robe so who cares if it’s too big?” I’ve now not only found a great robe for staying warm, but also become a huge advocate for buying your robe a bit larger than necessary. it’s true, it didn’t really matter that I had a robe that was a size or two too big, but it’s actually a huge benefit. A robe is meant to envelop you and feel all cozy, and if you have a robe like this one that’s lined with fleece, it’s even better to have it wrap around you fully. When I wear this robe there is no chance of a gap in the front. Each end of the robe wraps fully to my side, so I’m a snug little burrito. It’s also a bit heavy and thick, which is oh so comforting.

Watch: The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell

Two quick facts: I love monsters, and I love crafts. When I saw The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell on my Netflix homepage all I could think was, ‘MY TWO LOVES TOGETHER AT LAST.” Christine McConnell is a crafter, actress, model, and designer (and probably more, honestly) who specializes in the spooky and ooky. She has an Instagram feed that scrolled through for like an hour, and I continued to be amazed again and again. Granted, the creations she makes are not easily recreated by even the most skilled amateur, but sometimes a crafty show is about a maker showing off and you sitting on your couch continually yelling, “Oh my GOD, that’s INCREDIBLE.”

The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell isn’t your typical craft and cooking show. The season has a fully realized plot and incorporates instructional snippets into the story. Christine is also joined by a (again, fully developed and plot-focused) group of friends that are created by none other than Henson Alternative, as in THE HENSON COMPANY. These are not just puppets, these are cousins to Muppets. I MEAN.

The show has a lot of adult humor but is definitely family friendly, a fine line that’s not easy to walk as effortlessly as this show does. It would be so easy to make it very adult or water it down, but it’s just perfect.

I highly recommend you check out Curious Creations, and then go on an Instagram deep dive of all Christine McConnell’s work. Then check out how she decorates her parents’ house for Halloween. I would like a season of The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell to be released every Halloween until the end of time.

Want: Jewelry Storage

I used to have a dresser (this dresser) with two small drawers at the top. One I’d use for underwear, and in the other I put a tray in to hold my jewelry. This system worked for over 10 years, until I moved and decided to use a different dresser. Now I have no idea what to do with my large jewelry collection. I found this thing, which I now know is meant to be a desk organizer, at Pottery Barn, and I’m using that for my most-used pieces. This means, however, that I have an extended jewelry collection with nowhere to go. Should I get a hanging thing like this and keep it in the spare closet? Should I go old school and get a Caboodle? I still don’t know. But I need a solution because I hate being disorganized and I hate that my precious jewels have no proper place in the new house.
