Wear, Watch, Want #174: The Double Tie Dyed Regency Edition

Wear: Weighted Blanket/Quilt Combo

I think it was last winter that I developed the Two Blanket System for Warmth and Dog Safety. See, a weighted blanket is comforting and SUPER warm, but my dog likes to go under the blanket and lay by your feet, and a 15lb weighted blanket is not suitable for a 30lb dog. I didn’t want him to be slowly crushed by something meant to induce calm and ease anxiety! So I started putting a quilt OVER the weighted blanket, so that Hero could still go “under covers” without being squished. It’s such a great system that I also used it all summer, but with two quilts instead of a weighted blanket and a quilt. (Weighted blankets are so warm that I no longer use a heated blanket on my couch.) I have this weighted blanket (mine is grey rhombus, 15lb, 48”x"72”, which is apparently no longer available) and my quilt is one my mom made for me, but if I didn’t have one made with love just for me, I might buy this one.

Watch: Bridgerton

For Christmas, my parents came to my house for lunch, we played Monopoly (a family tradition, there is gambling involved) and they left by 3pm. It was… kind of a perfect Christmas? Then I got in my pajamas, parked myself on the couch (under the Two Blanket Combo) and binge watched Bridgerton. The show is frothy and fun… and I’m glad someone in my Twitter feed posted a content warning about assault before the show was released! I did forget exactly what they said though, so I watched the majority of the season going, “Is it her that does it? Her? HER? WHO?!” I don’t think the writers should have cut out the scene, BUT I would have liked the characters to have had a conversation about it. I don’t expect Regency characters to be like, “So, let’s discuss marital rape” but I do think they could have said something like, “This is why you hurt me and I need you to understand that this was traumatic.”

However, based on what I’ve seen on Twitter following Bridgerton’s release, most people are upset that Black people exist! What an original, surprising perspective! I have curated a feed that weeds out most bullshit, so no one i follow has expressed these views, but racists love to tell on themselves, so I’m seeing responses to these idiots who just cannot handle Bridgerton’s casting.

I really disliked the way Bridgerton made it seem like the show had colorblind casting and then with one line was like, “Oh no racism used to exist and now it doesn’t - or maybe it does - but we’ll never explore that!” And I’m not fit to break that down, BUT the above TikTok explains it so perfectly (and concisely! TikToks are SHORT!) and is also from the perspective of a POC Bridgerton fan so I’m going to let them do the talking.

The things I liked most about Bridgerton were Queen Charlotte’s (Golda Rosheuvel) wigs, everything Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) including but not limited to her eyebrows, Penelope Featherington as portrayed by Goddess Nicola Coughlan, and knowing that, if the show follows the books, and gets renewed, we will eventually get a whole season about Eloise.

Want: Tie Dye Kirkland Sweatshirt

Someone on Reddit posted this sweatshirt, and I immediately fell in love with it. Costco started selling sweatshirts emblazoned with the Kirkland Signature logo, which is cheesy and unnecessary and also exactly the kind of thing a Costco fanatic like myself would love. Then a Reddit user took that dorky sweatshirt and TIE DYED IT, making a garment that I am so envious of, I actually looked into how I could tie dye one myself. Ideally, this person would make an Etsy store and I could just pay them for it. (How much would I be willing to pay? TOO MUCH!) They posted the instructions they followed to get the end result, so I could theoretically make my own. Maybe I will!
