Wear, Watch, Want #164: The Spooky Spinning Scrunchie Edition

Wear: Silk Scrunchie

My hair is getting looong. I don’t remember the last time I got a haircut - January? - and I’m in no hurry to put myself and others in unnecessary danger just so I can have a fresh cut. I’m also smart enough to know that cutting my hair myself is not a good plan of action. So I’m letting it grow, and when I sleep, it gets in my WAY. I bought a silk scrunchie from this Etsy shop, and I’ve been piling my hair on top of my head, secured with this scrunchie, while I sleep. It’s great! I don’t accidentally end up with hair in my face when I roll over, and because this scrunchie is big and made of silk, it doesn’t pull and damage my hair.

Watch: Stump Sohla

This week Bon Appetit came out with a trailer for their new programming after horribly, ignorantly handling accusations of mistreatment, racism, pay disparity, and probably a whole slew of issues that weren’t publicized. It’s shocking how badly they fucked up, particularly because they were told very clearly how to fix it. Anyway, the trailer came out and when I saw it on Twitter I yelled at the screen, “WE DON’T LIKE YOU! WE LIKE SOHLA!” (If you didn’t already adore Sohla, read this profile of her. She is wonderful. I will follow her anywhere and hate anyone who does wrong by her.)

Sohla El-Waylly, a glorious angel, has moved on, and now she has a show on Andrew Rea’s Babish Culinary Universe, Stump Sohla. The concept is that she has some type of food to make, and she spins a wheel and then has to make that thing in whatever way the wheel says. As I’m writing this there have been three episodes: 18th Century Mac and Cheese, 7-Course Convenience Store Tasting Menu, and Soup and Ice Cream on Fire. It’s not only fun to see Sohla at work, being the fearless, curious, talented chef she is, but it’s also great to know that she’s being paid fairly for her work. A giant, powerful corporation couldn’t make that happen, but a guy running a YouTube channel out of his basement could!

Want: Halloween Print… Everything

This set of paper plates from Target’s Halloween offerings is in the BEST print Look at it! It’s so cool! I would love this print in an apron, a pillow, a dress, and on a mug. But Target only has this pattern in paper plates. I bought a set and I’m going to see if I can cut them down and frame one, but what I really want is for Target to realize how great this is and make a whole collection out of it. I would buy it ALL.
