Wear, Watch, Want #169: The Dead, Discontinued Bread Edition

Wear: Beetlejuice Inspired iPad Case

I first got an iPad in 2010, and that was when I first found an iPad case that was modeled after the Handbook for the Recently Deceased from Beetlejuice. In the decade since, I have thought about it, but never bought it. UNTIL NOW. I ordered this one a few weeks ago and it’s a dream come true. I will say, it’s not as good as the $10 Amazon one I had before, so if you’re looking for functionality above al else, this is not for you. BUT, if you are a slave to aesthetics, look no further.

Watch: The Great British Bake Off/Baking Show

I have already told you to watch GBBO, known in US as The Great British Baking Show (I personally prefer to call it Bake Off, because I love a pithy title). I first wrote about GBBO after it premiered here in the US and my mom and I happened to watch, and immediately became obsessed. That was in 2014! I talked about it in Wear, Watch, Want #17. Were we ever so young?!

Now it’s 2020 and we need all the feel-good things we can find, so I’ve been rewatching each season (that we have access to here in Hell/America) and I just finished series 6, which here was season 3, and Netflix refers to as collection 3. I refer to it as the Nadiya season, so there’s yet another categorization method to throw into the mix.

I was at my mom’s house for four days and I watched the entirety of this season, and even knowing how it ended up I was still crying during the finale. It is truly the best season, and if you watch just one, make it 6/3/Nadiya. BUT, one of my favorite contestants ever to hit the tent is also in this season: Paul!

Not the Hollywood Paul. Contestant Paul! Who made the bread lion and the fondant bikini babe. Paul is the only contestant I can remember who answered Paul Hollywood’s icy stare with a stare of his own, and won every time. Is Paul a cop? I mean, basically. He works in a prison. Do we believe in prison abolition and defunding the police, even in the UK which has a legal system I know nothing about? Hell yeah. But I love the bread lion! I love his tough guy attitude while baking tiny little cakes with such care! Contestant Paul is my problematic fave!

Want: Trader Joe’s Ham and Cheese Croissants

Speaking of Bake Off, while I was watching, Nadiya said, “Pastry always leaks a little in the oven,” and I answered back, “Yeah that always happens to TJ’s ham and cheese croissants.” And then I let out a wail of despair because Trader Joe’s has heartlessly discontinued their ham and cheese croissants. These things were a freezer STAPLE for me. They were perfect, easy, and delicious. Who can I call to get these back? Joe? Is Trader Joe available? I know they are discontinued, but I still check every single time I’m in Trader Joe’s, hoping they’ve returned.
