Wear, Watch, Want #154: The Short Hospital Door Edition

Wear: Retractable Screen Door

This week I’m loving something that my house has worn. I mentioned my desire to have a retractable screen door in #115 of this series, and now I finally have one. I picked up this door at Home Depot and kindly asked my dad to install it for me. This door is even better than I imagined. I get a great breeze from the backyard through the kitchen, and with this door I can enjoy the fresh air and sounds of the outdoors without a bunch of bugs flying in (the Zevo helps too) or Hero tracking in something gross.

Watch: Lenox Hill

One of my favorite shows is 24 Hours in A&E. I have been yelling about it for years, and I’m shocked that Netflix didn’t include it in their deal to being a bunch of Channel 4 shows the the US. Lenox Hill is kinda sorta like 24 hours in A&E, but with obvious camera crews, higher production values, and it’s completely controlled by Netflix instead of just licensed. It also focuses more on the doctors than patients, which makes sense considering how they film. 24 hours in A&E uses small, unobtrusive cameras placed all over the department, and then they cut together episodes based on 24 hours of footage. No one really knows if they’re “on camera,” and it gives viewers a sort of fly on the wall experience, which is interspersed with talking head sections with the doctors, patients, and family. Lenox Hill follows four doctors at New York City’s Lenox Hill Hospital, one in the ER, one in OB/GYN, and two in neurosurgery (these two are different but I cannot tell you how). You get to see a lot of what goes on in a hospital on any given day, and how that affects the doctors and their patients. It’s no 24 hours in A&E (the opening credits of which make me cry), but it’s definitely scratching my itch for medical shows that don’t feel exploitative.

Want: Madewell Camp Shorts

I have been on a mission to find shorts this summer, and all I’ve really accomplished is believing that no clothing manufacturer thinks that a body like mine can exist in this world. I finally found Madewell’s Camp Shorts, which are high waisted, not too short but not too long in the inseam, and most importantly, have elastic in the back to help them fit well around my big butt and smaller waist. PLUS, right now they’re on sale for $10 each. I tried some on in the store, then ordered the wrong size, then returned them and ordered the RIGHT size. Now I’m just waiting for the pairs that are finally in the right size to arrive, and then finally I’ll know peace!
