You Can Use Anything As Eye Cream, Including Snail Slime

If there is one skincare item I think is absolutely essential, well if I’m being honest it’s Retin-A, but if there is one over the counter skincare item I demand you add to your routine, it’s Cosrx Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence. I raved about it over three years ago, and I’m still using (and loving) it. I use it morning and night and when my bottle is like, 4/5 of the way gone I freak out and have to make sure I have another ready to go, because I cannot last a day without it.

There are other Cosrx Snail Slime products, but I’ve only really committed to the essence. That is, until I ran out of eye cream. I have so-so feelings about eye cream. Is it really necessary? Is the Trader Joe’s one, which I actually really like, enough? Will any moisturizer do the job? I’m still on the fence, but I do always make sure to get some super powered moisturizer around my eyes, which tend to get a bit flaky. I saw that Cosrx had a snail slime eye cream, and I was intrigued. My beloved snail slime, but specialized?? I immediately started searching for reviews… and didn’t really find any. I mean, there are plenty of reviews that exist, but I wanted something I could trust, like Reddit. (LISTEN. Reddit, when used for very specific purposes, is a fantastic resource.) All my research on the snail eye cream kept leading me back to a different Cosrx snail product: Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream.

Snail-Loving blogger Jude Chao, of FIfty Shades of Snail, uses Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream as an eye cream, and she’s literally made a career out of snail-based skincare. Who am I to argue with that?? Plus, I liked that it comes in an enormous tub (enormous compared to other products marketed as eye creams) and that it clearly stated how much snail slime I was getting (Snail 96? 96% snail slime. Snail 92? 92% snail slime. Snail eye cream? WHO KNOWS??).

If this photo seems gross JUST YOU WAIT

I started using this cream around my eyes and wouldn’t you know, it works great. Now I do need to add a disclaimer: I don’t have puffy or dark undereyes. I really just have issues with dryness. So I’m not advising that this will erase your dark circles or decrease puffiness, but I’m also not sure any eye cream will do that! This cream is lightweight but rich, and really makes my eye area feel cared for. The outer edges of my undereyes are prone to flakes, and I haven’t seen a flake in weeks since using this cream regularly. But there are some downsides, mainly that it’s in a jar and the product is sticky. It’s slimy like a xenomorph. I’m not a big fan of products in jars anyway: You have to worry about cleanliness and sanitization and also just spilling it all over the place. Plus, like I said, this jar is BIG. So I figured why not just put it in a smaller jar?

I have raved about these Nalgene containers before, and they’re still one of my favorite things. I planned on just putting a small amount of the snail cream in the same jar I use for Eucerin Healing Cream, but then I saw this dropper bottle, and decided to give it a go.

The nozzle on this bottle (I got the 2oz one) wasn’t wide enough to dispense the Advanced Snail 92 All In One Cream but I was able to widen it by sticking a needle in and wiggling it around. It was also kind of tedious to get the snail cream into this bottle, but I used the handle of a spoon to sort of scrape it in, and it took less than 10 minutes to fill the whole bottle. And now? It works PERFECTLY. I don’t have to deal with sticky snail slime all over my fingers, I can control how much product I use (even just tapping my finger in the jar gave me WAY too much product), and it fits in my medicine cabinet much easier than a big ol’ jar. An added bonus, when I someday leave my house again, this bottle is much better for traveling with than the jar.

This is actually not as disgusting as it looked in real life.

Who knows if eye cream is real, but I do know that I need added moisture around my eyes, and I love snail slime, and this is working great. Plus, I got to buy even more of my favorite little Nalgene bottles. WIN WIN.
