Wear, Watch, Want #218: The Hot Archival Training Edition

Wear: Wunder Train Leggings

A store I hate with things I like, Lululemon, has discontinued my favorite leggings, the Super High Rise Wunder Under. I own… so many pairs, so it’s not like I need more, but now I have to worry about something happening to the ones I do have. What if I trip on a curb and fall into the middle of a busy street and don’t get run over but DO rip my leggings, and am so distraught at my wardrobe tragedy I don’t realize I left my phone in the middle of the road until I’m a half-block away and my AirPods disconnect (a scenario that actually happened)???!! Lululemon’s not getting rid of the Wunder Train, only the Wunder Under, and when I was complaining to a very sympathetic employee about how I had gift cards to spend but my fave leggings were GONE, she mentioned Wunder Train. I had tried a pair of Wunder Train, and they were fine, but they were 25” inseam, a length I find unflattering, and I ended up consigning them. I don’t know if I didn’t know they come in other inseam lengths, or if I only got 25” because they were on sale, or what, but I ended up ordering a pair of the 31” inseam and fell IN LOVE. The Wunder Train are BETTER than Wunder Under. I now own a pair of 31” and two 28” and I think I’ll slowly consign my Wunder Unders and replace them with Wunder Trains.

Watch: Archive 81

Archive 81 is a Netflix show based on a podcast. If you’re thinking, “Sounds bad!” Yes, that’s what I assumed too. Netflix is not exactly discerning about their programming, and a show based on a podcast sounds tedious and unnecessary. But friends, Archive 81 is a pretty good time! I think this is entirely because of casting. The two leads, Mamoudou Athie and Dina Shihabi, are SO charismatic and SO compelling and I truly think this project with other actors would be garbage. I had never seen Mamoudou Athie in anything before, and now I’m in love with him. He is gorgeous, I love his voice, and his performance makes me care about archiving camcorder footage and think that maybe Matt McGorry isn’t obnoxious.

Want: Hot Rollers

I have been a hot roller fan for YEARS. Here’s an Instagram photo I posted in 2014:

I used to curl my hair just about every day. Along with wearing a full face of makeup, this habit was ditched when I moved to the PNW and even more so when the pandemic hit. One day when Foster Dog Kevin was here, he was growling and barking at me like I was a stranger and not the one person he was completely obsessed with. It took me a few minutes to realize, I had my hair down. He thought I was a different person because I had my hair down. That’s when I decided I needed more hairstyle variety, STAT.

I like BIG hair. Big and curly. This is why I turned to hot rollers all those years ago. I don’t have my rollers anymore, because I became a hair up, athleisure person and i don’t like unnecessary clutter. So I needed to buy some new hot rollers. I didn’t buy my set from Amazon, so I can’t just look up what I bought a decade ago, and maybe I want something else anyway! ALSO, the TikTok girlies have discovered hot rollers, so now they’re sold out all over the place. These ones are the viral TikTok ones, and I got them, but I fear the curl may be too large. I’m also considering these Caruso steam ones, which I read about years ago but thought were too pricey (now they seem very affordable, which makes me feel RICH), and I think these are the ones I used to have, but in another color, so maybe I should just go back to what worked before.
