I Want a Snoop, Baby

I never did any kind of enrichment with Hero when he was a puppy. I didn’t know what I was doing, and even though the internet was easily accessible, there wasn’t nearly as much info on how to raise a good dog as there is today. (I should add, they’re all good dogs, but now I’m a better human for my dogs). Now that Gus is here, I’m determined to do better by him, and one of the things I’m doing is daily enrichment. By the time I was aware of enrichment and puzzle toys for dogs, Hero was older and set in his ways. He had absolutely no curiosity for educational toys or working for his food. It could be that he would have never enjoyed a puzzle toy, but Gus is showing some interest, and I am interested in having a tired, happy puppy. I’m trying a few different toys, but so far Gus’s absolute favorite is his snoop.

I learned about the snoop on TikTok (my un-ironic favorite educational tool), and there are TONS of videos on how to use the Snoop, and how to hack your Snoop to make it even more exciting and challenging for your dog (I plan on trying this one ASAP). I got the small snoop before Gus was even here, mainly because I had no idea how big he would be, but I knew I wanted some enrichment toys. He likes the small one, but I’ve also gotten him a large one, and that works for him too (for reference, he’s a [currently] 13lb Boston terrier).

I use the snoop with his kibble, for at least one meal a day (right now, at 5 months old, he eats 1/2 cup three times a day). You just pop open the snoop, add your kibble (or treats, or other small dry goodies), fold the Snoop back, and give it to your dog. They roll it around and work to get the snacks out. I was worried at first that Gus would tip it over, like a little dome, and wouldn’t be able to get it back upright, but he figured it out right away. The Snoop is soft and lightweight, so even a puppy can manage to flip, roll, and toss it around.

As for cleaning, you just add a tiny bit of dish soap and warm water (hold the bottom opening with your finger) then put your hand on the larger opening and shake it around. Repeat a few times until the Snoop is clean and soap-free, then let it air dry. Adding soft foods would make the Snoop harder to clean, but I think if you kept it mostly on the outside, like in this video, it wouldn’t be too much harder to keep clean and would keep your dog occupied for longer.

I cannot recommend the snoop enough, in either size. Naturally, you (should) know your dog best, and this may not work for them. BUT, if your dog needs some enrichment and is suited for a toy like the snoop, by all means get one. Or two!!
