Use One Dog Tag for Multiple Harnesses By Utilizing These Tiny Carabiners

Gus has a thin rope collar that he wears when he’s hanging out in the backyard or there’s some commotion and a lot of door opening (like recently, when the AC repair person was here) and I just want to be extra sure he will get back to me if he gets away. Gus is afraid to take a walk in the neighborhood, so I’m not really concerned he’s going to see an open door and run away, but I like the reassurance his necklace gives me.

However, I feel like it’s overkill to have him wear a collar (no matter how thin) as well as a harness. I wouldn’t want a ton of crap around my neck when I’m trying to go off on an adventure, so I figure I shouldn’t subject Gus to that either. BUT, if he’s only wearing a harness, he has no ID tag. Hero had only one harness and it had ID tags on it, simple as. But Gus is a Fashion Boi and has many harnesses, and I wanted a way to move his ID from one harness to another easily. The answer, obviously, was a tiny lil’ carabiner.

I initially bought TOO tiny a carabiner, and had to return, but my second attempt was a success, and this set of 10 carabiners was perfect. (They came with keyrings, but those were huge, and most ID tags come with rings anyway.) I ordered Gus a new tag (I went with this one I mentioned here), attached it to the carabiner, and it was everything I’d hoped for.

I can easily move the carabiner from harness to harness, and I can even put it on a different collar if I feel like it. Wearing a harness is usually enough to signal “I have a home!” but having an ID tag with my phone number gives me that added level of security I need. Plus, look how cute!
