Boscia Makeup-Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil

I'm all too familiar with blackheads. I should probably start naming them, they've been around so long. I don't get new blackheads, I just have had the same ones for 10 years, which in a way is even more depressing. I've tried all kinds of things to get rid of them, like those nose strips, or different masks, face washes, creams, and serums. Nothing has worked to even minimize my blackheads, let alone banish them. On the semi-bright side, my blackhead-riddled nose isn't really that noticeable. If you were here sitting across from me you'd probably say, "What blackheads?" But I tend to get all up in the mirror and inspect every part of my face, and those blackheads have been taunting me for what seems like an eternity. But recently I've found something, finally, that has been getting rid of my blackheads once and for all (I'm so excited about it I could cry). Boscia Makeup-Breakup Cool Cleansing Oil.

True to its name, this is an oil, and it takes off makeup like nothing I have ever seen. Let's start with the oil part. I'd been hearing about cleansing with oil for awhile, but I thought it was just another over-hyped beauty trend, and I ignored it. But now that I've tried it, I'm an oil cleansing convert. I have oily skin, so you'd think I'd want to avoid putting oil on my face. WRONG. Here's a chemistry lesson for you: Like attracts like. Therefore, cleaning my face with oil will actually suck out the oil in my pores. Crazy, right?

So you put this oil on your dry face with dry hands (if I'm super oily I'll even use a blotting paper before I put on the oil), and you rub it in for awhile. (Now that I've noticed it's getting rid of my blackheads, I make sure I give my nose a good rubbin'.) I've read that some people massage the oil in for as long as 2-3 minutes, but I think they just can't judge time and are actually doing it for like, a minute and a half, tops. I try to massage my face with it for one minute, and let me tell you, it's boring and tiring. BUT! The results! Oh, the results. As I mentioned before, my blackheads are retreating, which is amazing in itself, but this oil also takes of makeup like it's nothing. I don't wear huge amounts of eye makeup, but I wear enough (long-wearing) eye makeup that I can't get it off just by washing my face. I could usually get most of it by rubbing at my eyes with Cetaphil until I looked like I'd been crying for a week, but that was probably just giving me eye wrinkles. I sometimes used makeup remover, but it was kind of a pain in the ass. It was too much effort, and all it did was take off my eyeliner.

With this oil, I rub it on my made-up eyes for just a few seconds, and BAM! It's all dissolved. Sometimes I'll have a faint blackish tint around my eye area, but once I rinse off the oil it's all gone. I'm diligent about washing my face and taking off my makeup, but I must say I've never had such a thorough cleaning/makeup removing as when I've used this oil. I follow up by doing a quick cleanse with Cetaphil, but I'm just paranoid about using oil on my sensitive skin and breaking out. I've read that some people do just fine only using the oil. This cleanser contains menthol, peppermint, and eucalyptus, which is why they call it "cool" cleansing oil, but I don't notice any scent, coolness, or stinging. In fact, I rub this all over my eyes, even getting some of it IN my eyes, and it doesn't irritate them at all. I've even used it while wearing contacts with no ill effects. The oil does make your vision a little cloudy, but I just rinse with water and it's fine.

There are a lot of different cleansing oils, and I've been reading reviews on MUA, seeing if there's something even better out there. Full disclosure: I've never actually bought this product. I got a deluxe sample in a 500-point gift from Sephora. I was wavering on whether I'd splurge for a full size once my sample is done, but now that my perma-blackheads are no more, I'm definitely on the cleansing oil train. I am, though, looking for a potentially cheaper cleansing oil option (DHC is looking good). Of course, if I find an even better cleansing oil, I'll be sure to write a review and share the good news.
