Save The Drama For Your Eyebrows

It's time to talk about one of my favorite topics again: Eyebrows. I don't have sparse brows by any means, but they were once a victim of their time, i.e., they were waxed into a thin arch, as was the style, and it's hard to come back from that. My brows have grown back quite a bit from their super thin days, but there are still some areas that are, say, enjoying more of a minimalist look.

I like to fill in my brows using either a pencil (Hourglass is still my favorite), a brow gel, or both. Usually on full-on makeup days I'll use the pencil and set it with the gel, but on days when I'm just looking for a little bit of a fuller brow, but I'm keeping my makeup super basic, I'll stick to a tinted brow gel. My former go-to brow gel was Benefit's Gimme Brow, which I still think is a fantastic product... but I have a new love now, and it's almost a third of the price. Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara is essentially Benefit Gimme Brow, but in a full size tube, and without the price tag or the annoying goopiness that I talked about in my review. So, basically, it's your dream come true.

There really isn't much point in discussing the formula of this brow mascara, as this product is essentially perfect dupe for Gimme Brow. The big difference is the price point (DAT PRICE POINT DOE) and the funky brush. Whereas Benefit's brush is just the teensiest little spoolie you ever did see, the Brow Drama brush is a spherical spoolie that at first glance is a little intimidating. I'm a fan of this brush, but I must admit there is a bit of a learning curve involved, and I'm not sure why Maybelline wouldn't go with something that was more intuitive. I do, however, have my own ideas as to what they were inspired by...

The reason why I prefer this odd little Chim Chim Cher-ee of a brush to many other brow mascara brushes is that it's specially made for eyebrows. I have a tube of Anastasia's brow gel that I never, ever use because it has a full-size mascara brush - it's basically a Diorshow brush - and it's far too large for my brows. If I try to use it I end up getting brow gel all over my brow bone and it's a huge mess. It would have been easy for Maybelline to throw a Great Lash brush on this tube of brow gel and call it a day, but they didn't. They took the time to make a brush that would actually fit a human's eyebrow, and I appreciate that greatly.

Now let's talk about that goop factor I mentioned when reviewing Benefit Gimme Brow. I wrote a whole guide about how to de-gunk the little brush and get all the excess product off the spoolie. With Brow Drama? Not necessary! I might need to wipe a small amount of excess off the very end of the brush, but that's it. It basically comes out of the tube looking just like it does in the above photo. No wasted product, no wrestling with a spoolie, and no spending even more time in the morning on taming your werewolf brows. Sorry, Gimme Brow, you've been completely and utterly dethroned.
