This Lipgloss is Totally 90s - But In a Nice Way

There was a whole lotta hoopla when Rihanna's Fenty Beauty arrived at Sephora, and it was well deserved. The Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation comes in a whopping 40 shades across virtually all skintones - this is so rare a find that the Fenty Beauty displays were ravaged by customers desperate for a foundation that finally matched their skintone.

I live within walking distance of a Sephora, and I regularly walk Hero there for a little browse as self-care. When Fenty Beauty came on the scene I was eager to check it out, if only to see the aftermath of a makeup revolution.

I was ready to buy some Fenty Beauty, but what struck me about the highlighters, lipsticks, eyeshadows, and lipglosses was that they were all SO GLITTERY. I talked about the glitter factor in last year's gift guide. I came of age in the late 90s/early 2000s, and I am glittered OUT.

Even though I found the intense glitter overwhelming, I was taken by the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer. It's a nudey lip gloss that's 1) glittery 2) vanilla scented and 3) reminiscent of a million lipglosses from my adolescence. AND YET: I love it.

I have a set of acrylic Muji drawers that hold a plethora of lip products, but I keep my Fenty gloss on top of my drawers, within easy reach. I throw it on before running out the door, going on a walk, grabbing lunch, walking the dog. It's my "I need a little bit of polish but not like, lipstick" gloss. I love that the doe foot applicator is extra large, because I have big ol' lips and I can do one quick swipe and actually cover my pout completely. I love that the color is neutral, but extra. I love that the glitter reflects light, but isn't GLITTER (have I mentioned that the theme of Fenty Beauty is GLITTER?).

I initially thought that I'd buy this gloss and have to figure out how to work it into my life, but now it's something that I grab all the time. It's my go-to just as much as my favorite lip balm
