Salonpas Pain Relieving Patches

I have more aches and pains than your average schmo. This is mostly due to the fact that my body is a fibromyalgia addled crap basket. I regularly have pain in all areas of my body, and it's pain that is pretty difficult to relieve. In any case, I've become a bit of an expert on different methods of pain relief. I've tried everything from heavy duty narcotics to over the counter drugs to going gluten-free. Nothing I've found has helped relieve my pain better than Salonpas patches.

Like most strange yet amazingly useful products, Salonpas is from Japan. They make all kinds of patches and topical sprays for pain relief, but I use the original, small patches. This is mainly because they're super cheap (about $5 for a pack of 40). You can get larger, thinner ones (at a much higher cost) if that's your style, but the little ones work just as well, and their small size allows you to slap a bunch of them all over in whatever configuration fits your pain best (as I type this I'm rocking three patches in a nice little arc around my knee).

I'm not completely sure how Salonpas patches work, but the gist of it is that they contain camphor and menthol that penetrate through your skin and muscles to help relieve pain. Because of the smelly ingredients, Salonpas patches make you smell like a big ol' pot of VapoRub. This is a small price to pay for effective pain relief, but if you're not comfortable smelling like menthol, I'd avoid wearing these patches outside the house.

Another great aspect of Salonpas patches is that their pain relief lasts for hours. We're talking 6-8 hours of relief. As someone who used to pop pain pills like Tic Tacs, I can tell you that a full 6 hours of pain management is hard to come by. Plus, because you're getting your "drugs" through a patch, you're not destroying your digestive system with painkillers.

Overall, Salonpas patches are a great bargain, effectively relieve pain, and the relief lasts for hours. If you suffer from any kind of muscle or joint pain, they're definitely worth a try. I know they've changed the way I treat my aches, and changed them for the better best.
