Start Your Fall Off Right With These Autumnal Goodies

I come alive in the fall. It is by far the superior season and it’s three cousins frankly, suck in comparison. The proof is in the quintessential display of seasonal icons, Grease 2’s “Girl For All Seasons,” in which autumn has the best costumes.

I also present as evidence, this quote from Rainbow Rowell’s Attachments:

“October, baptize me with leaves! Swaddle me in corduroy and nurse me with split pea soup. October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins. O autumn! O teakettle! O grace!”

PS: Grease 2 is the superior Grease and Rainbow Rowell only writes cozy books perfect for a crisp fall day. Please add these to your to be read/watched list immediately.

Over the past few years, the Flavors of Fall have taken over, and I for one am INTO IT. Put pumpkin in everything, add ginger and nutmeg to my toothpaste, put a ghost in every window of my house - I’m here for all of it. Some people think it’s cool to diss the pumpkin spicing of every item in the grocery store aisles, but those are people who do not enjoy fun, and should be avoided. I, on the other hand, will try absolutely everything with glee and therefore consider myself a fall product expert. Here are the things that you MUST take advantage of in the fall season.

Mrs Meyer’s Mum Scent

I wrote about this last fall, but while many of Mrs Meyer’s seasonal scents are great, mum is by far the best. Last year I didn’t find out about mum until late in the season, but this year I came ready to stock up. I use Mrs Meyer’s Multi-Surface Spray every day, and all over the house. My go-to in the year-round scents is honeysuckle, but when I can have mum, that’s my top pick. I also burn a mum candle when I want to banish any cooking smells from my kitchen. If you wait, you can get seasonal products like this on sale at Target, but don’t wait too long, or you’ll have to wait a whole year for them to come back.

Starbucks Fall Treats

When I lived in LA I walked Hero to Starbucks almost every day. I went into a mild panic when I realized I never told my favorite barista I was moving so I just STOPPED showing up one day and WOULD SHE FEEL SLIGHTED? All this is to say, I’m a frequent Starbucks customer. Starbucks has two fall pastries that are so amazing that I suggest you try both at your earliest convenience. The first is the Apple Cider Doughnut. I grew up going to local apple orchard, and they made their own doughnuts. You could watch the doughnuts get made on a little conveyor belt and then you’d eat them warm and fresh with a cup of hot apple cider. These doughnuts at Starbucks remind me of that whole experience and I just love it.

The second fall pastry Starbucks is offering is the Maple Pecan Muffin. This muffin is so good I’ve probably eaten five of them and I only discovered it like 9 days ago. When I went to see A Star is Born at 10:30am I swung by the ‘Bux first and got one of these muffins and a bottled coffee. It was a great snack to sneak into the movies and I will absolutely be doing it again. If you are a lunatic who likes to put joy on hold and therefore will only eat ONE fall treat this season, I suggest the Maple Pecan Muffin. If I haven’t bought them all first.

Trader Joe’s Fall Offerings

Trader Joe’s is the ultimate purveyor of seasonal items. As a Fall Fanatic, I squeal with delight when I notice that TJ’s is stocking their fall stuff. This year I picked up some of my fall staples and added a few new items to my cart. My must-buys include Petite Pumpkin Spice Cookies (I could easily eat an entire box in one sitting and therefore ration my purchasing of these delicacies), Harvest Blend Tea, Pumpkin Spice Toaster Pastries (my old store had these year-round, so maybe it’s not a “special” fall item but WHO CARES, GIMME THAT PUMPKIN), Honey Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli, Pumpkin Soup, and the one item I always want but never buy (I’m going to change that on my next trip, trust) Pumpkin Rolls.

Now that you have your shopping list, go forth and enjoy this blessed season!
