Wear, Watch, Want #126: The Warm, Chocolatey Media Monopoly Edition

Wear: Smartwool 1/4 Zip Top

REI is having a huge sale, and I went on a lil’ shopping spree. Have I mentioned three thousand times that I dress differently now that I’m in the PNW? Because all I want to wear EVER is leggings, bralettes, and comfy, warm layers on top. I went to REI the day before the sale so I could pre-shop - then when the sale dropped I’d know what I wanted, and what size to get. When expensive performance wear goes 30% off you need to be READY. I picked out a few things, including the Smartwool Merino 250 Base Layer 1/4 Zip Top. The store, it turned out, would honor the sale prices even though I was a day early, so I just bought my stuff and went on my way. I wore the Smartwool sweater immediately, and then went back the next day and got TWO MORE. It is… a perfect garment. Warm, but isn’t bulky and won’t make you sweaty. It fits great under just about any jacket, or vest, or other top layer you wish to add. The sleeves and body are super long, which is for something so essential is also so rare! I have the blue, grey, and black, and odds are I will be wearing one of them every day till March.

Watch: Disney+

I thought about getting Disney+ for awhile. I scrolled through the entirety of that massive Twitter thread to get an idea of what would be on offer. I genuinely thought it would be $20 a month, and I already have SO MANY streaming service subscriptions, did I really need another one? Then I found out it’s only $7 a month, or you can sign up for a whole year for $70 and I thought, why NOT? And you know what? It’s amazing.

I do not care about Marvel or Star Wars and it’s still a steal. They have so much that it’s honestly a bit overwhelming. I haven’t even had time to cue up my favorite WWII movie, Bedknobs and Broomsticks. There are, however, a few things I was disappointed not to see, and I’m hoping that in the next few months are added. I know that there are licensing issues and whatnot, but a girl can dream. Here’s what I’m hoping joins the Disney+ family soon, and until then I’ll be watching Motocrossed on a loop:

  • All the TGIF shows that had episodes at Disney World. I would like a playlist of just these episodes, from Boy Meets World to Full House to Family Matters. and beyond.

  • I had The Disney Channel when it was a premium cable subscription, which means I remember when all they showed was forgotten movies from the 50s and 60s, shows they licensed from Canada and Australia, and the reboot of The Mickey Mouse Club, MMC. My favorite was Keri (Russell, icon). I understand why they can’t get Ocean Girl (Australian, and perfect), but why not MMC? Are Ryan Gosling and JC Chasez fighting them on this?

  • They have Bug Juice but a reboot from 2017 and NOT the one from the late 90s/early 2000s. Again, is this because they can’t get permission from the now-30 somethings who somehow agreed to be filmed at the most awkward phase of their lives? Why would they deprive us?

  • Many people (fools, all) confuse Disney Channel Original Movies with The Wonderful World of Disney, which aired on ABC. My Date with the President’s Daughter? That was Wonderful World of Disney. So was Model Behavior. These are not on Disney+, and I wish they were. Where is Wish Upon a Star? Whither Susie Q?

Want: Kirkland Chocolate Banana Almond Beverage

After coming home from barre, my body is tired and I just want to SIT and EAT. But also, I don’t? It’s that weird feeling where you feel like you need to replenish your body but in a way you can’t quite articulate. I assume this is why protein drinks exist. My personal favorite post-workout snack is Kirkland Almond Chocolate Banana Almond Beverage. But every Costco I’ve been to (and I’m in the Land of Costco, there are a lot) has stopped carrying this perfect snack. Has it gone seasonal? Are they phasing it out? It is completely discontinued? I don’t know, but I want it BACK.
