This Ultralight Tinted Serum is Chock Full of Skincare

As mentioned before, i have transformed into a no-makeup type. I open my drawers of eyeshadow palettes and 35 different lip products and think, “Well, we had fun.” But it’s just not worth the effort anymore! Still, occasionally I want a little complexion evening-out, and now I feel like an absolute supermodel if I swipe on some mascara, so that’s nice. I used to use Dr Jart Cicapair Cream as kind of a no-makeup makeup option, but it can be a bit dark for me. When I apply it, I have to make sure I either keep it far from my hairline, or go in after and blend blend blend so I don’t have an orange halo around my face. I’m… very pale. So when I found out about Ilia Serum Skin Tint, I wanted to give it a try.

I love when skincare is also makeup, which is why I liked the Dr Jart Cream so much. This ultralight serum foundation comes in 18 shades, and includes such skincare MVPs as niacinamide, squalane, zinc oxide, and multiple hyaluronic acids. Like they say, it’s a serum with tint - not a foundation - so don’t expect much coverage. BUT, if your’e going to be covering 2/3 of your face in a mask and you just want to even things out, get some skincare, and have SPF while you’re out and about, this is a great option.

I went to Sephora and asked them to help me find the right shade, and I think the combination of wearing a mask, being in weird in-store lighting, and the lightest bottle looking almost white, I was told I should get either shade 2 or 3. I settled on 3, because I have exactly ZERO warm undertones, but 3 was sold out in store and online. I went home empty handed, but I started looking at the shades online, and I looked WAY more like the model for shade 1 than 3. Observe:

I even sent this image to my mom, who has seen my face a lot, and asked her which one seemed more like me. We both agreed, I am the shade 1 gal, so back to Sephora I went, confident in the fact that I knew my own skintone. I got the lightest shade, and it’s a perfect match. I mean, because this is a tint and it’s light coverage, there’s a lot of wiggle room on shades. I’m sure I could have survived with shade 3, but the whole reason I was purchasing this stuff is because the Dr Jart was so orangey on me.

Real talk: I used FaceTune on this photo on an eyelash on my cheek that I didn’t notice when taking the photo, and also a very small bruise that I wanted to cover up because I am SELF CONSCIOUS.
