Get Your Brows Just Right, With a Little Help From Fenty Beauty

I guess it takes a global pandemic to make you realize you don’t really care that deeply about makeup. That’s not entirely true - I still love makeup, but I’m not nearly as invested in wearing it, and also, this transformation started when I left LA and was much more into wearing nothing but athleisure and looking like I could go on a hike at any second. Who is that person who wore a full face of makeup every day? Truly do not know her.

I got into makeup as a tween because I was horribly self conscious about my skin. Makeup was for me, much more about giving me self-confidence than expressing artistry. I couldn’t do a cut crease to save my life, but I wager I (and anyone with a history of problematic skin) am better at covering a blemish than anyone. After going on Accutane (this site’s most popular content, but the DIY Peloton is catching up) I was able to worry less about acne, and combined with moving to a less appearance-centric place, I’m now far more into skincare and a few polishing tweaks than a full face of makeup. And lucky for me, there are about a million products to try that will help me with my “natural but with some help” routine.

Robyn Rihanna Fenty, visionary businesswoman, has come to our rescue yet again with a fantastic low-effort way to feel pulled together. The Brow MVP Sculpting Wax Pencil and Styler is just what I need to feel like I’m not making a coffee run looking like a werewolf. One end of this magic stick is a clear brow wax that you just swipe over your brows. I do one swipe, you might want two, but you really don’t need a lot. It takes seconds. Then the other end, which is a soft but sturdy silicone brush, comes in to make sure the wax is evenly distributed and all your rogue brow hairs are in place.

I have fairly substantial brows, and if I’m going au natural anyway, i’m not too concerned with filling them in to their full glory. But I would recommend anyone who has more sparse brows, or wants a fuller look, to add in a little brow pencil once you’ve set your brows in place.

I expected the brush to be pretty stiff, but it’s surprisingly flexible. it’s not as scratchy as your typical spoolie, and as someone prone to redness from the slightest irritation, I appreciate that. It did take me awhile to get used to using a brush in tandem with a wax - I’m not used to my brow hairs being so firmly put in place - but once I got used to it, the whole process of getting your brows in line takes seconds.
