These Food Storage Containers Are, Well, Brilliant

When I was compiling my list of recipes I’ve loved lately, I realized I have never talked about my favorite food storage containers. You don’t always think of how you’ll store the fruits of your recipe, but it’s a vital part of the process. And the best containers are Rubbermaid Brilliance.

They are airtight, crystal clear, and clean up like a dream. I regularly keep Marcella Hazan tomato sauce in one of these and I haven’t had to designate a specific “tomato sauce” container. You know, when you store tomato sauce in a container and no matter how clean it is, there’s always that shadow of tomato sauce that will never go away? Not so with Rubbermaid Brilliance. They remain as clear and unblemished as the day you brought them home. And all the pieces are dishwasher safe, so there’s no messing around with cleaning. Just throw the container and lid in the dishwasher and they come out looking like they’re about to star in a JetDry commercial.

Not all airtight lids are created equal. Sometimes you think it’s airtight, and then when your soup gets tipped to the side and you end up with soup all over your fridge, you realize you were betrayed. These containers have airtight gaskets that don’t wear out, stretch out, or otherwise fail. Even with 100 trips through the dishwasher, they hold up. BUT THEN, there are also clips on the sides to make CERTAIN this lid isn’t going anywhere. Not only that (and I realize this might be something only I care about) there aren’t clips on every side. You know the containers. It’s like Mission: Impossible trying to get those things open. Rubbermaid Brilliance has two clips, you can open them both simultaneously, and it’s just insurance for that airtight gasket.

I always have a few of these on the go in my fridge or on the counter. They are useful for everything and if I had a larger house with more cabinets I would have at least five of these in every size. I bought a set of like 6? 7? at Costco, and I have since added more, one at a time, from Target and Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They are super affordable for something so useful and ingenious, and I would pay full price for them any day. My favorite, most used sizes are the 4.7 cup, which is just a deeper version of my other fave, the 3.2 cup. They use the same size lid, so you don’t need be messing around with which lid goes with what. Amazon sells a set of 5 3.2 cup containers and despite already owning many of these, I am thinking of getting this set. It’s a great deal! These are the best containers! Think of all the sauces and bars and whatever else I could make!

BTW: The photos above show the peanut butter oatmeal bars from Tuesday’s post.
