Cetaphil Introduced a Fancier - but Still Simple - Moisturizer. And it's Lovely!

Over the past year I’ve really pared down my skincare routine. I just did a big clear out of all my skincare/beauty/medicine cabinet crap, and it felt freeing. I’m trying to do less experimenting and more sticking with what works. I mean, I’m always looking for something that works better, so it’s not like I’m done impulse buying and testing forevermore, but I’m going to think more about buying based on what I want or need instead of gimmicks.

This announcement brings me to… an impulse purchase. Kind of. I’m looking for a good, basic, moisturizer. I want it to be easy to obtain, simple, and effective. I recently switched my cleanser to Cerave from (Target brand) Cetaphil, and I bought a small bottle of Cerave’s basic moisturizer to see how it would work. It’s fine. I’ll use the rest of the little bottle, but I want something more heavy duty. My current routine post-washing is snail slime, then moisturizer, then SPF in the morning, or an occlusive layer (this or occasionally this) if it’s nighttime. I use tretinoin every day and my skin leans toward dryness, so I want a moisturizer that packs a punch, but still absorbs quickly so I can add whatever other layers of stuff I want on my face and move on.

That’s why, when I was skulking around the beauty aisles at Target and saw Cetaphil Deep Hydration 48 Hour Activation Serum, I was intrigued. It’s Cetaphil, so I know it’s simple and effective. It’s marketed as like, high end Cetaphil, with glossier packaging and a fancy little pump instead of a basic squeeze bottle. Plus, there was a coupon for 15% off. So I bought a bottle and figured I’d test it out.

And you know what? It’s pretty great! I love the pump bottle - One pump is the perfect amount for my face. Plus it absorbs quickly, which I love. It feels moisturizing without feeling heavy, and I like the faint scent. That being said, it is scented, so if you’re a Cetaphil fan because you are averse to scented products, this one will disappoint you. And I can’t speak to “48 Hour Activation.” I don’t even know what that’s implying. Plus, I wash my face and apply different products more often than every 48 hours, and I expect most people buying Cetaphil products do too. Are they claiming that this absorbs into the skin and does something for 48 hours? No $20 moisturizer is going to do that. But if you’re looking for a fast-absorbing, budget friendly, effective moisturizer that you can get at Target? This is a great option.
