The 'Your Bod But Better' Perfume You Can Buy at Whole Foods

I’m not a perfume connoisseur, but I do like a little scent sometimes. Something earthy and subtle and not perfume-y. I want to smell like a human, but better. Nothing super floral, nothing that smells like a baked good, nothing fruity. When I saw this article on The Strategist about perfumes for people who hate perfumes, I thought, “Hmm, I’ll check it out, but I bet they recommend some orange smelling shit*”

*Literal citrus smells amazing to me, but anything citrus scented smells like BO and I do NOT get how anyone smells anything different.

I opened the article and the first scent they recommended was Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume, which I LOVE. “Ok,” I thought, “this is right for me, I want to know more.”

It’s very difficult to just read a description of a scent and know that it’s right for you. Even if it sounds good, we all have different bodies and scents work differently on different people. Plus, perfume is expensive! Sure, you can get trial vials and try things on in store but it’s a pricy endeavor. After reading the descriptions of each recommended scent in the article, I was immediately drawn to Nemat Amber Perfume Oil, not just because of its description, but it’s price point. The article recommended the $18 roll on, which is the perfect price for a scent experiment. Plus, this description had me sold:

I am not exaggerating when I say I keep a bottle at arm’s length — it moves from my desk, to my tote bag, to near the door, almost in tandem with my keys. The oil takes a little while to dry when applied to the skin, but once it does, it sort of locks with your chemistry and blooms in an indescribably pleasurable, luminous, and clean way, especially on warm days.

And here’s the real bonus: They sell Nemat Amber Perfume Oil AT WHOLE FOODS. I picked up some when I was getting bagels and my favorite frozen pizza. My WF was sold out of the roll-on, but they did have the teensy tiny 0.5ml bottle in stock, and it was only $10. TEN DOLLARS!

If I were a patient person, I’d have waited for one of Whole Foods 25% off beauty sales (like the one happening as I write this), but I am NOT patient and it’s so cute and tiny and $10! You might see how small this bottle is and think $10 is a ripoff, and I wouldn’t blame you, but you apply so little of this oil - just put your finger over the top, flip the bottle, then apply that drop wherever (I do wrists and base of the neck). This $10 bottle may last me months and months.

I also love how the simple packaging makes it look mysterious. There’s no huge branding, the label looks like something you could make in 10 minutes with a Cricut, and the smell is just “Good Smelling Human.” It’s enigma in a bottle and you can get it on your grocery run.
