Wear, Watch, Want #194: The Sun Safe Ennui Edition

Wear: Black Girl Sunscreen

I am currently waiting for some Asian sunscreen to be delivered (I was given multiple shady tracking numbers but now one is working and as I’m writing this it’s coming tomorrow, ALLEGEDLY), but in the meantime I have been using Black Girl Sunscreen like there’s no tomorrow. If you want a sunscreen that 1) Blends in immediately with zero white cast, and/or 2) Smells like nothing, then you need a tube of Black Girl Sunscreen in your life. I will often apply sunscreen in the morning, or think “I’ll put on sunscreen before I go outside” and then it’s afternoon and I want to take the dog on a walk and I end up with a red splotch on my chest because I did NOT remember to put on (more) sunscreen. I have started keeping a tube of Black Girl Sunscreen right next to the front door, so I have no excuse to forget. I know you’re supposed to put it on and then wait 30 minutes or so before you go outside, but no one’s perfect and hastily applied sunscreen is better than none at all. Plus, because this formula is perfection, you can haphazardly apply and you won’t have a white haze all over yourself, AND you won’t be carrying around the telltale odor of sunscreen. This stuff is magical.

Watch/Read/Listen: Whatever, Man

There are so many things I want to watch, and I remain completely unmotivated. I have TV ennui. The idea of turning on my TV and then selecting which streaming service to use and then choosing something to watching within that streaming service just feels like a CHORE lately. So here are a few things I’ve been doing instead:

I read Patricia Lockwood’s latest, No One is Talking About This, and I loved it. Some references might not make complete sense if you’re not on Twitter 3 hours a day, but I don’t think that should deter you. I cried and laughed and the book is weird and sweet and sad. Look, I am pro-spoilers all the time, but especially if the contents will be triggering for some people, SO I will mention that (here comes the spoiler if you don’t want any spoilers LOOK AWAY) the book covers birth complications, medical trauma, and child death. a

I stopped looking at Instagram regularly (I sometimes dip in very quickly to check on my favorite parasocial relationships), but I’m obviously still reading Twitter for hours a day (see above) and watching my beloved TikTok. THIS ONE IN PARTICULAR really got me. I watched it three times in a row and was WEEPING. I would watch an 8-part prestige limited series solely built around this video.

Also probs going to make one of these in my ennui phase, why not.

I’m also continuing to listen to Trust Me (mentioned in WWW #192) and I’m still interested but not as passionate as I was for the first few episodes. Remember how I praised them for not just going, “That’s craaaazy” to everything? WELL I SPOKE TOO SOON. Also, and this is petty and could be because of myriad reasons, but I’m mad that they won’t say LDS is a cult but they’ll call AA a cult? I DISAGREE! Anyway, I’m still listening but I’m mad that I may have overly-praised them prematurely.

Want: Dog Car Safety Gear

I am taking my dog on a lil’ road trip in a few weeks, and I’m looking into dog car safety and it is CONFUSING. Real talk: My dog is 12 and I have driven him from the midwest to the west coast and then up virtually the entire west coast and yes I’m only NOW concerning myself with car safety. I’m ashamed, OKAY? But now that I’m looking into how to best transport a dog.. I’m so lost. I like this car seat, it looks super cozy and it’s crash tested and I know he would like to snooze in it while I drove him to the beach, but is is SO EXPENSIVE. And then maybe a bed isn’t really necessary, I could just get a harness like this well-rated, crash tested one. OH WAIT IT’S SO EXPENSIVE??? And what if I just put him in his crate (that’s what I did for two big interstate moves), then how do I secure the crate? Do I need to? The more I read, the more I realize I don’t know!
