In the Eye Cream Hunger Games, La Roche-Posay is Our Champion

Do you need a moisturizer exclusively for your eye area? Honestly, I have no idea. I used a cheap one for awhile, then used a pricey one, switched to a different cheap one, then stopped using eye cream altogether. But recently, two years into Covid, I started thinking I might want to be out and about and a part of the world again. Part of that is putting on a little makeup. Not much, just covering some red areas, filling in my brows, and lighting up my under-eyes. This is how I discovered that my under eye area was Flake City.

When I’m not wearing makeup, you can’t really tell, not even if you’re right up close and looking for it. But the minute a concealer joins the scene, it’s flakes on flakes. The only solution is a heavy duty moisturizer. I tried just applying a little extra CeraVe to that area, then adding some Aquaphor on top. It didn’t make much of a difference. I wanted to try an eye cream, but they’re expensive, most come in a jar which feels gross, no matter how many times I wash my hands before application, and are they even really necessary?

I was laying on my couch, scrolling through the Target app looking at eye creams, and I found one that looked promising: La Roche Posay Toleriane Ultra Eye Cream.

It’s from a brand I trust, it comes in a pump bottle that’s airtight, it’s sold at Target, and it’s affordable (compared to say, Clinique or Belif, the other two I was considering).

And here’s the best part: IT WORKS.

Within a day or two of morning and night application, the skin around my eyes was more moisturized and felt less tight. After three days I put on some concealer and it went on like a DREAM. No flakes, no splotchy application. It’s a tiny little bottle but I use 1/2 to 1 pump twice a day and it’s plenty. Plus it’s easy to restock at Target, so even at $25 a bottle, it’s affordable and attainable. And if you put on your Dieux Forever Eye Mask over the La Roche Posay Eye Cream??! You’ll be unstoppable.
