Wear, Watch, Want #240: The Upside Down Dead Tomato Edition

Wear: Upside Down Apple Watch

I have a fake workout going on my Apple Watch at least once a day. I have no idea how this happens, but I’ll look down and see I’ve apparently been swimming for the last 40 minutes. I don’t know what I’m pressing or doing but my watch looooves to accidentally start a workout and never let me know it’s happening. That’s why, when I saw a TIkTok about someone wearing their Apple Watch upside down, I immediately switched mine around. Like, so immediately I was watching the TikTok while futzing around with my watch. It was a super easy process, and I have logged ZERO fake workouts since making the switch.

Read: I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy

I somehow checked the Libby app at the perfect time and was able to get the audiobook of I’m Glad My Mom Died before anyone else realized they wanted it. I listened to the book in one day and when I went to return it 60 people were waiting! (This is why you should have multiple library cards, btw. It was a MONTHS long wait at all my libraries but one, where there was ONE copy that I still don’t know how I snagged). ANYWAY, I read it it one day, in basically two sittings, and I would recommend this book to anyone. I was a nanny when iCarly was on, and I was slightly familiar with the show, but you don’t need to know anything about Jennette McCurdy or any of her acting gigs before reading this memoir. I’d also recommend the audiobook, mainly becasue she does voices for each character, not cartoonishly, but to put you in her headspace — her mother and grandmother’s horrible behavior hit even harder in audio form.

I’ve seen a lot of Tweets complaining about the title, but it only proves to me that they haven’t read this book, because by the end YOU TOO will be glad. McCurdy’s mother dying saved her life, and she says as much at the end of the book. I can’t wait to see what Jennette McCurdy does next. She’s quit acting but is a talented writer, and after I’m Glad My Mom Died, I’ll read whatever else she wants to write.

Want: Tomato Candle

Every year when Trader Joe’s brings out that one trio of candles (lemongrass, tomato leaf, and mint) I want to buy it, but ONLY for the tomato leaf one. I am obsessed with the smell of tomato plants, and have been ever since we had a garden plot when I was a kid and would go every day to harvest our crops. We grew multiple things, but all I remember is tomatoes and zucchini - because I LOVED the way the tomato plants smelled, and becasue we had SO MUCH zucchini. I had the idea this week that I should shop for a tomato vine scented candle, and it turns out here are MANY, but they’re all so expensive! I do not like to spend a lot on something I’m going to set on fire! But until I find an elusive tomato candle at Home Goods, I might splurge on this tomato vine candle at Anthropologie.
