My (Formerly) Pitiful Nails Are Now (Enviably) Strong

After months and months of dip manicures, my nails are kinda shot. I love that dip powder makes them super strong (my nails are decidedly NOT strong), but it got to the point where if my manicure chipped, the nail underneath was so weak it would bed and even tear from the slightest pressure. I decided I needed a little break to let new stronger nails grow in before I returned to dip manicures.

But my nails were so soft, so pliable, so utterly wrecked, that I had to keep trimming them super short. ANY length would lead to bending and tearing, and I knew the grow out process was going to be hell if this continued. I did some Googling, and I learned about OPI Nail Envy.

OPI Nail Envy Original

Everyone who wears nail polish probaby knows the name Nail Envy, but I never actually knew what it was. I’d have said a line of nail polish? Or like some kind of top coat? But it’s a nail strengthening treatment, and it works wonders.

Nail Envy, at $18, costs a bit more than a regular nail polish, but when you think about it as a nail treatment instead of a nail polish, it’s a steal. The directions are to apply two coats to bare nails, then two days later apply another coat, then two days after that apply another coat, then on day 7 remove the polish and start the process again. I’ll admit, I have done four rounds of Nail Envy now, and I have followed those directions ONCE. And I still have amazing results!

My nails right now are just as strong as they are when I have a dip powder manicure. I even did that thing from 90s commercials where someone opens a pop can with just their nail and IT WORKED. The color is also kind of pearlescent, and my mom asked what nail polish I was wearing because it was her ideal polish color. She has super strong nails but she bought a bottle just because she liked the color (it ostensibly has no color).

So if your nails are weak and bendy and tear off just from being near something, OR if you want a nail polish color that’s basically clear+, OPI Nail Envy is exactly what you need.
