Store Your Recipes - And Bypass Paywalls - With This App

This couscous salad has had me in a chokehold for weeks. The recipe makes a big batch and then you just nosh on it throughout the week, which for me is PERFECT. There are few things worse than cooking when you need to eat now, and having something nutritiously balanced and ready to go in my fridge is truly a lifesaver. I often don’t realize I need to eat until I’m like, sick. It’s not great! If you also have ADHD, don’t like to cook every single meal, and worry you’re not eating enough vegetables or protein or whatever, may I suggest this fab recipe*?

If you clicked the recipe and were horrified to find it’s behind a paywall, I feel you. I too think paywalling a super ADHD friendly, easy, possibly tastier after a day in the fridge recipe is atrocious behavior. But here’s how to get around it.

You can also add your own recipes. For example, “Mom’s Chocolate Chip Cookies” is literally MY mom’s chocolate chip cookie recipe (it’s award winning, be jealous)

This solution will cost you $5, sorry about that, BUT once you have the Paprika app all your recipes will be easy to find, follow, and save. I wasn’t super sure about Paprika, but now that I’ve had it for a few years I can safely say it is absolutely worth $5, and I’d pay more! There are so many features I don’t even use — I just use it to save recipes and make things — but you can meal plan and make grocery lists, all based on the recipes that are right there in front of you. Paprika has a built in browser that magically extracts recipes and loads them into Paprika in an easy to follow format, and even includes photos.

So how do you use Paprika to access paywalled recipe? Simply open the recipe in the Paprika app, then ignore the “pay me!” popup and just click download…. and voilà, it’s right there. Ingredients, directions, even photos all come through. I don’t know if this works for every paywalled website, but I DO know it works with Delish, Bon Appétit, and The New York Times. And once those recipes are in your Paprika app? They’re all yours baybee. Now go get cookin’!

*One box of Trader Joe’s pearled couscous is only sliiiightly more than what’s called for in this recipe, so just use a whole box. Also I don’t cook it in broth and it’s FINE and even GOOD. And I use shallots instead of red onion because I believe shallots are superior to all other onions.
