Small But Mighty Hooks For a Tidy Shower

I am very particular about the aesthetics of my shower. If you read the post about The Shower Squid, you'll know about my hunt for the perfect shower organizer. You can also see in the pictures from that post that have a Venus razor on the shower wall in the holder that comes with the razor. That flimsy plastic suction cup holder is trash. It's supposed to open to hold extra razors, but I never really trusted it to hold anything, and the "door" of mine was always flying open. Eventually, the whole apparatus started spontaneously popping off the shower wall and scaring the bejesus out of me, and even more so the dog, who would lose his mind. Something had to be done.

I found this standalone suction hook on Amazon and decided to give it a try. Immediately after setting it up in my shower and putting my razor on this hook, I knew it was a vast improvement. This little sucker creates a tight lock against a surface and stays put (as long as you install it correctly - I have applied it too loosely and yeah, then it's going to fall in the middle of the night and scare the crap out of you). This isn't just a suction cup that you stick to your wall and hope for the best. With this system you lift up the hook and the suction cup sort of pops out, away from the plastic base. Then you position the suction cup where you want it, and press down like you would with any similar product. But then, you fold down the hook. This locks the suction cup into place and pushes it even further into the wall, creating a seal that can hold a surprising amount of weight. I've used one of these hooks to hold something that was about 2 or 3 pounds and it did just fine.

One thing I have found is that when I try to install these hooks from outside my shower they always fail, but when I bring them into the shower with me and install them while I'm showering, they install perfectly 100% of the time. I'm not sure if this is because of the added humidity, or because of the angle I'm standing at, or what, but that's my advice to you: Install while showering. After I bought one of these hooks and saw how great it worked for my razor I bought another one for my shower squeegee. The squeegee came with a suction cup, but it became useless pretty quickly. Now I can still store my shower squeegee out of the way, and my need for a tidy, organized shower is met.
