Wear, Watch, Want #79: The Rich Pointy High Rise Edition

Wear: Rothy’s Point Flats

I mentioned in Wear, Watch, Want #75 that I wanted a pair of what I call “Internet Flats.” Those flats that you see advertised on Instagram and Pinterest, mainly Tieks and Rothy’s. Well, in the month since I wrote that, I’ve bought two pairs of Rothy’s and Meghan Markle, American Princess, has worn them too. I started with a pair of Rothy’s pointed toe flats in leopard. I was concerned about sizing, but I used their size chart and knew they had a great return/exchange policy. I am not always a 9 in US sizes - sometimes I’m a 9.5 and I think I even have some rogue 10s. But I am very consistently a 40 in EU sizes. On the chart it says that a 40 is a 9, so I went with 9. And they were too small. I exchanged for a 9.5 (super easy process, btw) and the 9.5 is perfect. Then Meghan Markle wore a pair of black Rothy’s point flats on her Pacific Island Pregnancy Tour, and in the ensuing online convos about her style I read that virtually everyone goes up a half size. COULD HAVE USED THAT INFO EARLIER BUT OK. Then I panicked. Meghan, Princess of our Hearts, has been known to sell out items that she’s worn. And I was planning on buying my new favorite leopard shoes in black in the upcoming months. I noticed that 9.5 was in stock in black and I panic-bought them. But I’m so glad I did. I got them earlier this week and I’ve worn them three times already. They’re perfection. If you’re looking for flats that go with everything and literally feel like slippers, get Rothy’s. Meghan Markle, Earth Angel, agrees.

Watch: Élite

You know I love teen soaps. I’ve got over 20 years of teen soap watching under my belt and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon. When I saw a new Netflix show on my home screen about teens at an elite private school who are all suspects in the murder of one of their classmates, I was IN. Then Élite turned out to be so entertaining and addicting I watched the whole thing in like a day and a half.

Élite starts with a murder. One of the school’s rich students has been killed, and the series jumps back and forth between a detective questioning the students and the events leading up to her death. Turns out, there are a million and one secrets and scandals in this fancy schmancy school and they keep coming until the very end.

I have seen every episode of Skins, and I have to say, this show makes Skins look like Gilmore Girls. There is SO MUCH NUDITY. There’s nudity on like, every HBO show, but I think because this show is about teenagers it felt more scandalous. You’ve also got a thruple, brothers dating the same girl, blackmailing a teacher, and the old standby from every teen movie, a sex-based bet. Oh, and the murder.

Want: Madewell Curvy High-Rise Black Skinny Jeans

I have two pairs of jeans in my regular rotation. One is a pair of black TopShop jeans, and the other are dark rinse Madewell Curvy High-Rise Skinny Jeans. The Madewell are so much better than the TopShop ones that sometimes it’s kind of a bummer to wear my black jeans. They just don’t hold up to the Madewell. The Curvy High-Rise Skinny have an amazing 11” rise and something Madewell calls “Magic Pockets” that suck in your stomach without feeling restricting. Basically, I love these Madewell jeans so much that I want them in black as well. I want my entire jeans wardrobe to be these jeans. They’re not cheap, but they’re life-changing.

Edited to add: I found these Old Navy jeans that seem to be attempting to replicate the Madewell Curvy Jean Magic at a lower price. I’ve ordered a pair and we’ll see how they compare.
