Wear, Watch, Want #186: The Super Puppy Pushup Edition

Wear: Superfeet Aftersport Sandals

I have joint issues, and because of that I absolutely have to wear shoes in the house. I have a collection of house shoes, but I love the EVA Birkenstock Gizehs most of all. A while ago, I was having terrible pain in one of my heels, and it didn’t take much Googling to find out it was plantar fasciitis pain. I already wore shoes in the house, but I thought maybe my Birks were worn out, and I needed something else. I started wearing regular Birkenstocks inside (I wear shoes inside, but not outside shoes inside), which was frustrating, and I knew I needed to get some new supportive inside shoes. When I was at Sierra Trading Post buying one million pairs of socks, I saw these goofy looking slides hanging on the wall. They seemed very cushy and supportive, so I tried them on. These Superfeet Aftersport Recovery Orthotic Sandals are heavenly. And they cost $12.99. The tag says they’re originally $25 but I did some Googling and apparently they actually retail for $60?! We went over STP’s weird price tags in this post, so I should have known. Either way, I can’t find them on the Superfeet website so they may be discontinued, which may explain why they are at a discount store. TRAGIC, because these are the PERFECT house shoes. I bought the gray pair they had in the store, and ordered a black pair from the Sierra Trading Post website.

Watch: The Dog House (UK)

Have I already written about my love of 24 Hours in A&E? (Yes, I have.) The Dog House (titled The Dog House UK on HBO Max) is the same premise as 24 Hours in A&E, but with dog adoption. Now that I’m writing this out, it is FAR more similar to another Channel 4 reality doc, The Secret Life of the Zoo. In all these shows, a bunch of low-profile cameras are placed all around an emergency room, a zoo, or a dog adoption service. Clips of various stories are shown, interspersed with talking head interviews. It is… the best. I will watch any iteration of this format, and the fact that the one about dogs is available on HBO Max, making it much easier to watch here in the US? Fantastic.

Want: PUSHRS

You know, you don’t always realize how much you depend on various mobility aids, and deal with daily aches and pains, until you write about different ailments back to back. I mentioned my feet, now let’s talk about wrists. I have all kinds of issues with the joints in my hands and wrists, including joint erosion, so things like planks and pushups are particularly difficult. It’s not impossible, but some days I feel completely capable of holding a plank for however long and my wrists are just like, “NO.” I have used yoga blocks a few times to add extra cushioning, but they get slippery and it feels particularly dangerous to have your whole upper body depending on your weak wrists that are on a slippery surface. That’s why I want to try these pushup helpers, adorably/weirdly called PUSHRS. They’re cushiony, sturdy, little boosters to help with wrist and hand pain during bodyweight exercises - exactly what I’ve been trying to achieve with yoga blocks, but better!
